Book one is a testimony of how I, by a twist of fate, futurized myself 20 years ago when I was ready to give up on life. I was 29 at the time and had my own business, a gourmet deli - which was failing and led me into an existential crisis. However, three questions saved my life gave me a sense of purpose and helped me to become the person he was born to be. Book two "Futurize Yourself - Evolving on purpose" continues the story. Where book one is more focused on the past, the present and the search for 'what' you have within that you can use to design a life that is meaningful to you and collective, book two will go deeper into the aspects of how we have far more influence and can change by the actions we take today.
Businesses and governments anticipate the future all the time. It's called a business plan, where they outlay their vision, strategy for the future and it is vital for their survival if their wish is to still be in business 5, 10 or more years from now. However, their vision must be followed-up by an action. By their actions, they are influencing or changing their future.
Successful people have their own 'personal plan.' They think long-term and align their actions to it. Long-term thinking is something that doesn't come naturally in most people. From an evolutionary perspective, we are wired for short-term thinking and problem-solving. This is seen by scientists as one of the reasons why we have kept ignoring climate change warnings.
However, we can learn to think more long-term by thinking long-term. In a fast-changing world where new emerging technologies like robots and AI will play an ever more important role, it is crucial that we start to think who we want to be and navigate the changes ahead without becoming technology.
Although technological advance can solve many problems and make life better, it also can make us lazy. In her book "The Future: A Very Short Introduction," Jennifer Gidley (President of the World Futures Studies Federation 2009-2017) writes: "it is thus possible that extensions of human faculties, through techno- and bio-enhancement, will bring about arrested development in the natural evolution of higher human faculties."
We are actually seeing this already in various phenomena. One example is "Digital Dementia" a term coined by neuroscientist Manfred Spitzer to describe an overuse of digital technology resulting in the breakdown of cognitive abilities.
